The Hosanna Children Home
A FAMILY HOME for orphans and other homeless children in
the high plateaux of the Cardamom Hills. In Spring 2004 there were 75 children,
aged 4 to 14, and 8 staff workers. The 'Home' was originally established to
provide a secure environment for orphans who had escaped from the Tamil Wars
in Sri-Lanka (Ceylon).
An increasing number of boys and girls from the locality who are identified
as urgently in need of assistance are accommodated.
A Christian home
The basic Christian ethic of the "Home"
is non-denominational although the founding family have been Presbyterian Pastors
in the region for over 60 years. Financial support for the "Home"
is not forthcoming from major churches although some of the minor denominations
occasionally contribute.
Other funds are obtained locally, from the United States
of America and from an increasing network of "Friends" in other countries.
The "Hosanna Children Home" is open to all young people irrespective of faith or denomination. The "Home" is based upon an idealised Christian ethic where the "Family" is the basis of their teaching and culture.
'Trust in the Lord and
Do Good so shall thou dwell in the Land and verily thou shall be Fed'
Psalms 37. 3
